William A. Christiansen Dr. Related Seminars and Products


Dr. William. A. Christiansen is the chairman of the Department of Finance at Florida State University. He oversees the operation of the largest major at the university. He also serves as the Director of the BB&T Center for Free Enterprise. He earned his B.A. in Economics and Asian Studies at Brigham Young University, his M.S. in Economics and Business at Brigham Young University, and his Ph.D. in Economics and Finance at the University of Utah with emphasis on Financial Institutions and Markets.

 

Christiansen has served as the Chair of the Department since 2005. During his tenure as chairman, the department has raised funds for two research centers, an academic and corporate speaker series, a student investment fund, a trading room, and an annual conference. In addition, under his direction, the department has started a new Master of Science in Finance Program and has revised the Doctoral Program in Finance. Prior to becoming the Chair of the Department, he was the Ph.D. Program Coordinator in Finance for 12 years. He has also served on numerous committees and performed many special assignments in academics, industry, and government. Christiansen has published articles in the areas of Bank Asset and Liability Management, Bank Regulatory Policy, Pension Fund Management, Bank Runs and Failures, Macroeconomic Policy Issues, and various economic performance issues. He also has been a consultant, a speaker, and an instructor in executive programs to various associations, companies, and universities in the areas of Global, U.S., and Asian Economic Performance, the Economics of Education, the Florida Economy, Monetary Policy, and Commercial Banking Issues.

 

He made over 30 presentations in 2012 Christiansen has taught a variety of courses at Florida State University, including a doctoral seminar in financial institutions, MBA courses in business conditions analysis and economic policy, and undergraduate courses in financial institutions and markets, commercial banking, and special topics in finance and economics. He was honored with the 2008 Florida State University Distinguished Teacher Award, the first time a faculty member in the College of Business had been given this prestigious teaching award. In addition, he has been awarded the MBA Professor of the Year Award seven times, the University Teaching Award three times, the Florida State University Guardian of the Flame Award in 2008, and the Christopher C. Campbell Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012.

Lynda M. Dennis, CPA, PhD received her PhD in Public Affairs and her Masters in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida and her under graduate degree in accounting and finance from the University of West Florida.  She is a Florida CPA and Certified Government Finance Officer.  Lynda is a full-time Lecturer in the Kenneth Dixon School of Accounting at the University of Central Florida.  Additionally, Lynda is a contract CPE discussion leader and course developer in the areas of accounting and reporting for governmental and not-for-profit organizations. 

 

Her experience includes serving in a financial capacity, including chief financial officer, in governmental and not-for-profit organizations primarily in Florida.  Her experience also includes working as an auditor for local and Big 4 firms with an emphasis in the insurance, government and not-for-profit sectors. 

 

Lynda actively participates in committee and other volunteer work for the AICPA and FICPA and is a frequent speaker at governmental and not-for-profit accounting conferences.  She has also previously published a number of CPE courses as well as a book on strategy implementation (both for governmental and not-for-profit organizations).

Serving as a Senior Product Manager - Advisory in the Tax Professionals segment of the Thomson Reuters, Will has been with Thomson Reuters since 2001. Will has spent many years working with firms in a consultative capacity, and developing services for Thomson Reuters to aid in the growth and transformation of tax and accounting firms – including the Practice Forward program. Will has twice been recognized by the CPA Practice Advisor in the “Under 40” lists. In his present role Will continues to look for opportunities to help firms transition to being “Advisory Centric” in their client relationships as they grow their business. Will is a periodic blog contributor on the tax.tr.com website, and along with Paul Miller is also the co-host of the weekly podcast “Pulse of the Practice”. Amy joined Gregory, Sharer and Stuart (GSS) in 2005. At GSS, Amy has focused primarily on audits of not-for-profit entities, as well as various nonpublic commercial entities.

Amy’s experience prior to joining GSS includes five years with Grant Thornton.

 

Amy’s responsibilities have included performance and supervision of audit and review engagements and information systems reviews. She has been involved in financial statement preparation including consolidated annual financial report preparation in accordance with GASB 34. Amy has experience in a wide variety of industries including not-for-profit, governmental, healthcare, employee benefit plans, service industries and manufacturing.

Amy has extensive experience in performing governmental, federal and state single audits. This experience includes work in a wide variety of programs, including those funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Justice and various other federal and state of Florida funding agencies.

Amy earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Florida Tampa. Amy is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida. She also has earned the Certified Information Systems Auditor designation through ISACA (formerly the Information Systems Audit and Control Association).
